More than 80 medical students donned their white coats for the first time Friday as they begin their journey to becoming physicians.
A White Coat Ceremony was held for the class of 2023 at ECU’s Brody School of Medicine. A total of 86 aspiring doctors got their white coat, which they will wear during patient care throughout their time at ECU.
ECU officials say this year’s class was selected out of 1,075 applicants, which is the most in the school’s 42-year history. Students come from all over the state.
The class is made up of almost an equal population of men and women, with the youngest person just 20 years old.
The White Coat Ceremony is a tradition that’s done nationwide and serves as a right of passage for students entering medical school all over the country.
