Boys & Girls Club receives $20k donation for educational summer program

PITT COUNTY, NC (WITN) - A summer program focused on helping kids get ready for the upcoming school year is getting a big boost thanks to a hefty donation.

Duke Energy has donated $20,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Coastal Plain to help support their summer program Summer Brain Gain.

Summer Brain Gain is an educational program for elementary, middle and high school students. It includes a variety of themed activities to help kids develop skills to stay on track for the upcoming school year.

"Summer Brain Gain effectively prevents summer learning loss, ensuring kids return to school ready to learn, and they have a great time too!," said President & CEO of Boys & Girls Club of the Coastal Plain Kimberly Boyd.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain focuses on academic success, good character and healthy lifestyles for kids across Eastern Carolina.

The $20,000 check was presented at the Jack Minges Unit in Winterville in June.
