CARTERET COUNTY, NC (WITN) It's been a long and difficult road to recovery for one small business owner after Hurricane Florence, but Friday, a landmark location along the crystal coast was finally able to reopen.
The Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle lost five sections of the 1,000 foot pier during Hurricane Florence.
It took six months for the small business to be able to make repairs.
Friday was the first day that lines were able to be back in the water and fishermen were back to utilizing the popular fishing spot.
The fishing center has been hard at work rebuilding the areas the storm damaged and owner Mike Stanley says the pier is now stronger than ever.
Stanley says, "It's been a real run for us but we're relieved that we finally got to this point and we're so happy everyone really has been so excited about coming back and getting out here to do some fishing."
Stanley says they are hoping for a strong summer season with visitors and are looking forward to a busy weekend with the St. Patrick's Day festival being held in Emerald Isle to help give them a much needed economic boost.
