Better Business Bureau offering smart planning suggestions during wedding season

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - We're right in the middle of wedding season! If you're planning a wedding, or if you have a friend or relative planning a wedding, there are things you can and should do to make sure you're getting every penny's worth.

Better Business Bureau leaders say the average wedding costs more than $44,000!

There are several things you can do to really get the bang for your buck. If you're going to spend that money, do your research or due diligence. Check reviews from other people who may have used a certain photographer or wedding venue. Try and understand their policies regarding cancellations or various guarantees for service. The last thing you want to do is come to an agreement, pay, and then have nothing in return.

The BBB says a common complaint is the photographer not showing up the day of the wedding. Cell phone pictures are great for Facebook or Instagram, but not so much when it comes to showing the kids and grandchildren down the road. Find out when and how you'll be able to see the photos and how you'll be able to get them.

Check for hidden or unexpected fees. Caterers, hotels, or any other place that can host your wedding might have some fee for things such as cutting the cake.

Make sure you ask about all fees that could be included based on what you're looking for in your big day. Thanks to the growing digital age, get written proof. Get everything in writing and that includes things mentioned in person or over the phone.
