Beaufort Airport to receive safety improvement grants

BEAUFORT, NC (WITN) - One airport in the east is among three in North Carolina to receive grants for safety improvement projects.

During its June meeting, the NC Board of Transportation approved state and federal grants totaling nearly $535 thousand for the Michael J. Smith Field Airport in Beaufort.

In total, nearly $3.5 million will be distributed across the state for safety improvements.

Wilkes County Airport and Elkin Municipal Airport in Surry County will also receive funds.

In the east, Michael J. Smith Field will use the funding to rehabilitate the pavement on the taxiway and the apron area.
