BIG MESS: 18-wheeler carrying lumber overturns in Duplin County

DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WITN) - Crews are cleaning up a big mess in one Eastern Carolina county after a tractor-trailer carrying lumber flipped over.

The Highway Patrol says it happened on Highway 11 near Highway 903 outside of Albertson just after noon.

The big rig was carrying 2x8 boards, which were tossed out onto the road and right-of-way.

Trooper Dana Turner says the flatbed was southbound when the driver crossed the centerline and ran off the highway.

Albert Alston will be charged with exceeding safe speeds for conditions, and unsafe tires.

No one was injured in the crash which closed down one lane of the highway. The trooper said when cleanup crews arrive, both lanes will be closed for 3-4 hours.
