BBQ restaurant announces big donation to Semper Fi Fund of Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - There's nothing more American in Eastern Carolina than the respect for our service members and the love for BBQ.

Tuesday, one business put those loves together to have a business with a purpose to help our nation's heroes.

Mission BBQ co-founders Bill Kraus and Steve Newton announced the donation of just over $49,000 to the Semper Fi Fund of Jacksonville.

The money was collected from customers who purchased special cups from the restaurant's locations in Jacksonville and Stafford, Virginia.

The money will help continue Semper Fi Fund's mission of supporting wounded veterans from post-9/11.

"We're just here really supporting Mission BBQ because they've supported us so much, you know, the Semper Fi fund supports combat wounded, critically ill, and catastrophically injured service members and we couldn't do the things that we do without great supporters like Mission BBQ," says Tanya Washington with the Semper Fi Fund.

The partnership between the two organizations began back in March of 2016.
