An annual barbecue will benefit local animal shelters.

The fourth annual BBQ for Paws event will be held on October 11 & 12 at the Elaney Woods Heritage Farmers Market on Hwy 17 S in Snow Hill.

The event features a hog cooking competition, with the winners competing in the NC State annual Cooking Competition in Raleigh.

On Friday evening around 4 pm, the cookers will start setting up and preparing the hogs for cooking. There will also be live music for guests to enjoy.

On Saturday morning, the cookers will be judged by the North Carolina Pork Council and barbecue plates will be sold for $8 starting at 11 am.

Barbecue will also be sold by the pound for $10.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to animal shelters in Greene County. The money will help repair shelters, buy supplies and help animals get adopted.
