KINSTON, NC (WITN) The 37th annual BBQ Festival on the Neuse in Kinston kicks off Wednesday and WITN is proud to sponsor the fun and festivities once again.
The action begins Wednesday, May 2nd with an outdoor painting competition, as well as a visual arts show and sale Wednesday night.
The rides get underway, as well with wristband night, where you can enjoy unlimited rides for $22.00.
This year's whole hog cooking competition features 96 professional and amateur teams with the delicious results being judged and served up to the public on Saturday, May 5th.
A new feature to the festival this year is called "The Best of The Best," in which several past BBQ champions are going to prepare individual whole hogs so the public can taste championship quality cooking.
The festival's Tammy Kelly says, "For years we've had people wanting to actually taste the winners, and so this year we thought let's figure out a way to do that because our winners are so competitive during the contest that it's hard to get them to do a separate pig. So we just pulled some winners from years past, some champions, and asked them to cook a separate pig so that folks could come in and taste it."
You can try that championship caliber BBQ on Saturday, May 5th.
