KINSTON (WITN) - Kinston's annual BBQ On the Neuse continues Friday and Saturday, and organizers are optimistic about this weekend's turnout thanks to a new addition to the festival.
About 100 cooks will compete against each other tonight in a showmanship competition. This portion of the contest involves chefs not only cooking barbecue, but doing everything that they can to impress festival patrons. That includes anything from singing cowboys to gambling pigs.
The best dishes will be served Saturday. Organizers say festival goers have asked to try the best barbecue in past years, but this will be the first time that they will get to taste the best of the best. The pork will be passed out starting at 11 a.m.
Barbecue won't be the only thing that festival goers will get to sample Saturday. Another new contest called "Sauce Boss" will give people the chance to ty sample various barbecue sauces and vote for their favorite ones. All a person has to do to take part is buy a wristband.
Wristbands will be on sale at the corner of Caswell Street and the Farmer's Market.
