Second arrest made in Ayden store robbery

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A second arrest has been made in the daylight armed robbery of an Ayden convenience store.

Ayden police say Daquaris Crandell, of Winterville, turned himself in this morning at the Pitt County jail.

He is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, and felony larceny.

Le Le Convenience Store on Lee Street was robbed around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday by two men, police say. While one man held the elderly woman clerk at gunpoint, the other grabbed money from the register.

Police caught Maurice Hart, Jr. shortly after the robbery.

They say the clerk knew the two men and were able to provide officers not only with their names and nicknames but addresses of their family members.

Both Crandell and Hart are jailed on $75,000 bonds.

A man from Ayden is accused of robbing a person with a gun, but some of the details are not clear.

Ayden police say Maurice Hart Jr. robbed the person on Tuesday. According to the arrest warrant, Lele's Convenient Store is written in parenthesis next to the alleged victim's name. We aren't sure what the exact connection is to the store, but we are reaching out to authorities for that information.

Police say Hart Jr. also worked with another person in the robbery. He's in the Pitt County jail under a $275,000 bond.
