Registered sex offender charged with killing missing Kenly woman

KENLY, NC (WITN) - Deputies believe they found the body of a missing woman buried in the backyard of a registered sex offender.

Johnston County deputies have charged Kenneth Lamm, 50, of Wilson, with first degree murder.

They say the Wilson man killed 71-year-old Kathy Thomas. The Medical Examiner's Office will verify the identity of the remains found on his property on Harper Street East Thursday morning.

Deputies started investigating the disappearance of the Kenly woman on November 30th as a missing person case. Lamm was charged Wednesday with her murder.

WRAL-TV is reporting that the two met at a food bank where Thomas was volunteering.

State records show Lamm has served prison time for three different rape convictions, as well as several other sex offenses.

Lamm appeared before a judge Thursday morning in Smithfield. He was given a court-appointed attorney and his next court date is January 3rd.
