Atlantic Beach gearing up for a busy season
The Easter holiday and spring break are quickly approaching and this time of year signals the unofficial start to the busy tourism season for coastal communities.
In Atlantic Beach the town has been hard at work in their recovery efforts from the hurricane, but they've also been working on several improvement projects.
Visitors can expect to see a few new additions to the beachscape. Sand fences have now been added to help keep sand from blowing onto the boardwalk. The town is also building eight brand new beach volleyball areas and has also created several marked walking and running trails that loop through different parts of the town.
For small businesses like the Caribbe Inn they say the improvements are important in helping draw in more visitors.
Trish Lawrence, owner of the Caribbe Inn says, "They are putting things in that families really want and need on their vacation, something to do together. So their improvements have been fabulous and their walking trails, everything that's what folks are looking for when they come to our motel."
The locally run hotels also say they are gearing up for a busy season. Many of the big holiday weekends are already full. They say that's in part due to the loss of other larger hotel chains in the area from the storm.
