Athletes compete in Special Olympics in Kinston
Hundreds of athletes competed in the Lenoir County Special Olympics Wednesday for a fun day of competition.
The Special Olympics were held at Kinston High School's football stadium and athletes took to the field for competition with events running into the afternoon.
Nearly 400 competitors took part in Wednesday's event and more than 600 volunteers came out to help. The volunteers included students from Lenoir County Schools
The athletes took part in a 25 meter wheelchair race, a 50 meter dash walk/run and long jump.
The event also featured face painting, a bounce house and corn hole
Special Olympics in Lenoir County is an annual event and organizers say it is growing larger every year.
