Animal shelter suspending owner surrenders due to space restrictions

PITT COUNTY, NC (WITN) - Repairs at one Eastern Carolina animal shelter are causing them a space crunch.

Starting today, the Pitt County Animal Shelter will no longer accept owner surrenders.

Repair work on the existing shelter will limit the amount of space available for dogs at the facility by about half.

The work is expected to take two to three weeks and the county says this is not related to their ongoing shelter expansion.

Those with urgent concerns with animal housing can still contact Pitt County Animal Services at 252-902-1725 to hear about other shelter possibilities.
