Toyota of New Bern donates truck to non-profit group helping hurricane victims

NEW BERN, NC (WITN) - A local car dealership made a big donation today to a non-profit group that's been helping hurricane victims get back on their feet.

Friday Toyota of New Bern gave a brand new 2019 Toyota Tundra to a group helping people in the state rebuild after Hurricane Florence devastated the area.

The organization is called the Saint Bernard Project and they started helping hurricane victims in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit.

The organization was founded in Saint Bernard Parish Louisiana and now works to help whenever a hurricane hits.

Mark Smith with the non-profit group says this truck will be a huge benefit to them as they continue rebuilding homes.

"Vehicles are not cheap, but the amount of services we can provide with just one truck is amazing, we're gonna use it until the wheels fall off and the hundreds of people that will be helped whether we're doing mucking and gutting or mold remediation or moving supplies and materials, this truck is going to impact every single person we help," said Smith.

Toyota of New Bern will also service the donated vehicle for the life of the vehicle
The Saint Bernard Project is still currently helping rebuild homes all along the North Carolina Coast.
