37-year old man in critical condition after Atlantic Beach water rescue
Atlantic Beach rescue officials say a man is in critical condition following a water rescue this afternoon.
Fire Chief Michael Simpson says they received a call at approximately 3:30 p.m. for a swimmer in distress near the Beaufort Avenue beach access.
Simpson says that bystanders pulled the 37-year old male from the water, and lifeguards began performing CPR.
Upon their arrival, fire personnel continued life-saving efforts, and were able to get a pulse back, but the man remained unconscious.
The man was taken to Carteret Healthcare where he was listed in critical condition. He was later flown to Vidant Medical Center.
The identity of the man is not be released at this time.
