16 flu deaths reported last week across the state


RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Flu deaths spiked last week in the state as we approach the peak of the flu season.

The state Department of Health and Human Services says 16 people died, bringing the total to 52 so far this season.

A large majority of the deaths have been those 65 years of age or older.

During the last flu season, nearly 400 people died.
