JACKSONVILLE, NC (WITN) Law enforcement welcomed their citizens to share good conversation over coffee in Jacksonville Thursday.
Jacksonville's Police Department held their coffee with a cop event at Krispy Kreme on Western Boulevard.
Law enforcement officials say they hold the event to provide community members with a chance to have open communication in a casual atmosphere with their police officers.
Officers say they feel the relationship between law enforcement and citizens in Jacksonville has always been strong, and events like coffee with a cop allow them to continue to build on that relationship.
Lt. Sean MaGill says, "Usually when people encounter police officers it's not a good time for them, but this is a totally different setting that allows them just to relax and talk about what's on their mind. It lets them know that these officers that are in here are members of the same community, so they have the same concerns that the citizens do."
This event came just one day after National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
