PITT COUNTY, NC (WITN) The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says their forensics services lab has a new accreditation.
The unit met the qualifications by the American National Standards Institute and the National Accreditation Board.
In order to receive the honor, the board conducted a thorough evaluation of the entire laboratory and an on site assessment.
This accreditation recognizes the forensic team that is responsible for fingerprinting, drugs tests, and more.
Lieutenant Ken Ross says they are the only sheriff's office in the state to have this distinction.
Ross says, "It means a lot in all of us. This has been a unique team effort with part-time as well as full-time employees that have contributed a lot of man hours. And what makes me so proud about it is during the process of working on accreditation, we still maintained our everyday standard of providing a level of service to other judicial, judicial districts here in Pitt County, as well as the other agencies."
The sheriff's office says the accreditation is one of the most important tools for ensuring quality, reliability, and overall best scientific practices.
