Columbia Early College High School - Brandon Hinojosa-Landa

Brandon Hinojosa-Landa

My name is Brandon Hinojosa-Landa. I am from Columbia, NC and I attend Columbia Early College High School. I have a younger sister named Samantha. When I was eight years old I moved from the US to Mexico where I lived for 7 years before returning. I lived apart from my family for my sophomore, junior and part of my senior year. I enjoy directing short films for my Adobe software class, as well as playing sports and volunteering in my community. I am the senior class president, as well as the President of the BETA club and FBLA, maybe I’ll be the president of a country one day. I volunteer at the food pantry in my community as well as cleaning up the parks and helped with the blood drives hosted at school. Since I was really young, I have always been eager to learn about the movie making process. I have watched and studied films, and the effects that are implemented into motion pictures. In the past few years I have learned the value of hard work and having your family and friends there to support you. Throughout my junior and senior year, I have really strengthened my leadership skills. Life has also taught me that you do not have to be perfect. Life is about treating others with respect, and having high integrity. The simplest thing you can do is make someone smile. I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life.

SCHOOL: Columbia Early College High School
NAME: Brandon Hinojosa-Landa
AGE: 18
PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR: Attend North Carolina Wesleyan College
WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING TASK AS A SENIOR: Maintaining a good balance between school, work, sports, volunteering, and my social life is exhausting, but it wasn’t the most challenging task for me. Deciding what career choice to make after high school was very overwhelming, because you want make sure to choose the path that will make you the happiest through the rest of your life.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR UNDER CLASSMEN: Take school seriously and do not slack. You earn a grade you are not just given one. A student’s grade is the representation of his or her effort. Remember that the actions you take throughout your high school career becomes your personal brand. High School is your chance to build the reputation you want others to see.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR SENIOR YEAR: Making the final short movie of my high school career.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS: Directing my film crew in the production of a big budget movie, and finding prosperity, and happiness in life.
WHO IS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON IN YOUR LIFE AND WHY: The most influential person in my life is my mom. Her words remind of the good things in life when I am feeling helpless and broken. She has the power to change my mood instantly, and to make me recognize what I have done wrong.
I AM MOST UNIQUE BECAUSE: I don’t know when to quit. Whether it’s studying, rehearsing, or trying to make a friend I can’t stop until I accomplish whatever goal I have laid out for myself.
WHAT IS THE ONE QUOTE YOU LIVE BY: “A man’s character is a prophecy of his destiny”. If it were not for my character I would not have the trust of other people.
WHAT ARE 5 THINGS YOU VALUE MOST IMPORTANT AT THIS POINT IN YOUR LIFE: God, family, well being, friends, and opportunities. Opportunities have the power to unlock new experiences, but god decides whether to give it to you or not. God gave us the opportunity to live, and to find happiness among family and friends.
IF YOU COULD MOVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE AND WHY: I really don’t have a special place in mind, but I would like move around to discover new locations until I find the right one.
WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOUR CLASSMATES STILL DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU AFTER ALL THIS TIME: They are my favorite remedy when it comes to trying to forget about stressful situations.
WHICH YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL WAS YOUR FAVORITE: I enjoyed every year in high school, but my senior year is going to be my favorite because I had more opportunities to create new bonds, and to participate in different activities.
IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON A DESERTED ISLAND AND COULD ONLY TAKE ONE ITEM WITH YOU, WHAT WOULD IT BE?: A picture of my family, this will motivate me to stay alive so I can see them again one day.
