NHC Fire Rescue determines cause of multistory house fire on Figure Eight Island

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - New Hanover County Fire Rescue responded to a multistory house fire on 232 Beach Road North on Figure Eight Island Thursday morning.
A viewer sent us footage of billowing flames erupting from the structure at around 1:30 Thursday morning. NHC Fire Rescue confirms via Twitter that nobody was injured and the fire was under control as of 2:39 a.m.
Following an investigation, NHC Fire Rescue determined that the fire was caused by a lightning strike, and that nobody was home at the time of fire. Figure Eight Security first discovered the fire, and NHC Fire Engine 14 was first on the scene.
“Assistance was received from Pender EMS and Fire and Wilmington Fire Department who did a great job of protecting surrounding structures,” said MaryBeth Evans, Deputy Fire Marshal at NHC Fire Rescue.
