ECU blows three-run ninth inning lead, falls to Old Dominion

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - ECU baseball built up a 7-4 lead on Wednesday night, only to surrender four runs in the 9th, and fall to Old Dominion 8-7.

The Pirates took control of the early innings earning runs on a sacrifice fly in the 2nd. Bryson Worrell brought in Alec Makarewicz to give them the 1-0 lead. They would score twice more with the bases loaded in the 3rd. Zach Agnos came in on a walk. Lane Hoover crossed the plate on a hit by a pitch. ECU led 3-0 after 3.

After ODU hit a solo shot and a 2-run double to tie it, Jacob Jenkins-Cowart hit a monster 3-run home run off the scoreboard in right center to give the Pirates the 6-3 lead.

They would each put up a run in mid-late innings going to the 9th with the Pirates up 7-4.

The Monarchs would plate a run on a single and Robbie Petracci hit a 3-run home run to put them up for good. Pirates could not answer in the home half of the 9th. They drop the game and are swept in the two game season series with ODU.

ECU next plays host to American Athletic Conference foe Wichita State on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
