Phillip’s Weather Trivia: What happens to temperatures before a cold front?
This is a good tip to help you forecast
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Fronts come and go and are often primary drivers for our weather. Each front has affect on our skies and temperatures. A cold front affects us both ahead of it and after it. What do you think happens to our temperatures before the front arrives?
The definition of a cold front is the leading edge of cooler weather. Does it have any affect on temperatures ahead of it? Make your choice and see the answer below.
A cold front usually has a warmer day ahead of it. As cool air approaches, it compresses the air ahead of it causing it to heat up. We typically have southerly winds ahead of the front as well helping to lift temperatures. A good example will happen this Saturday when we may see near record warmth ahead of a cold front coming through Saturday night. - Phillip Williams
