LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - One person is dead and another is hospitalized after state troopers say a log truck ran a stop sign in Lenoir County.

The Highway Patrol says Baron McNeil, 25, of Kinston was driving the unloaded log truck when he ran a stop sign and struck a car on Central Avenue at Camelia Street just before 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Troopers say Shannon Sutton, 45, of Kinston, and Bernice Jernigan, 65, of Kinston were in the car that was hit. Sutton died at the scene and Jernigan was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

McNeil was taken to UNC Lenoir Health Care in Kinston but is expected to be okay. He was charged with misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign.

The Highway Patrol says the investigation is ongoing.
