Greenville man facing rape, assault, & drug charges involving teen
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A Greenville man is behind bars on multiple charges that he raped, assaulted, and gave drugs to a 15-year-old girl.
Mitchell Simmons, 38, was arrested by Greenville police on Tuesday.
He is facing charges which include statutory rape of a child, statutory sex offense with a child, indecent liberties with children, assault by strangulation, assault on a female, and sell or deliver a controlled substance to a minor.
Warrants say the statutory rape and other sex counts happened between August 2020 and March 31st in Greenville. In the assault by strangulation charge, the warrant says Simmons restricted the teen’s “ability to breathe...placing her in an armlock.” It also says the man struck the teen in her face with a closed fist.
Simmons is also accused of providing the victim and another teenage girl with marijuana. One of the indecent liberties with a child offenses involves that other girl, according to the warrants.
Simmons is being held in the Pitt County jail on a $401,500 bond.
