GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - This week we shine the WITN / Pepsi Sports Spotlight on ECU baseball’s senior pitchers Matt Bridges, Cam Colmore and Tyler Smith!

Over the weekend, ECU baseball won tis sixth regional title in program history. Head coach Cliff Godwin relied heavily on a trio of senior pitchers to get the job done.

“Where to begin?” Godwin said immediately after his Pirates defeated Maryland Sunday night to win the 2021 Greenville Regional.

“I really can’t put it into words.,” sixth-year senior Matt Bridges said.

“I can’t even put it into words,” fifth-year senior Tyler Smith added.

“It’s tough to put it into words,” sixth-year senior Cam Colmore echoed.

The Pirates were clearly speechless after winning their third regional title in the past four years. Of course, Cliff Godwin so thankful to those leaders who came back.

“Matt Bridges, Cam Colmore, Tyler Smith,” said Godwin. “We wouldn’t be here today without what of course they’ve done on the field, but more importantly what they’ve done in that locker room.”

Bridges, Greenville Regional’s Most Outstaning Player, shut the door for ECU.

“We put a lot of work into this, and it really all comes together in those moments, and it’s really special,” Bridges said.

Fellow sixth-year senior, and Winterville native Cam Colmore, clutch out of the pen, as well.

“It’s something special, and I’ll never forget it ever,” added South Central alumnus Cam Colmore. “Just, my last game ever at Clark-LeClair, just laying on the mound dog-piling with all my best friends.”

Six years, three regional titles for both Bridges and Colmore.

“They might be the first ECU players to ever win three regionals,” added Godwin. “So pretty special for them to come back their sixth year.”

Fifth-year senior Tyler Smith also came back.

“This is the reason why I decided to come back for my fifth year,” said Smith. “To be with Bridgey and Cam and my best friends.”

But these best friends have another bridge to cross this weekend in Nashville.

“We’re not done, and I hope there’s more for everybody here because we’re looking to do something special and something ECU’s never done,” Bridges said.
