NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) - The NC Secretary of Cultural and Natural Resources was in eastern Carolina Wednesday touring parks and attractions.

Secretary Reid Wilson was in New Bern touring the historic Tryon Palace as part of a three-day trip to cultural sites in the east.

Wilson says maintaining and expanding recreational opportunities for residents is important to him and the Cooper Administration. He says his department has a new initiative known as PATH or parks and trails for health. The goal is to create more parks, trails and recreation areas outdoors for people to use after spending much of the last year with limited activities.

Wilson says, “So more North Carolinians across the state can get outside for healthy outdoor exercise, and this is because of the pandemic that we’re trying to really expand the number of recreation areas people can get to.”

Wilson has visits planned to Hammocks Beach and the Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores as well.
