GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - For the second year in a row, Adopt a Senior in Pitt County gives community members a chance to help out a high school senior who may need extra encouragement, financial assistance, or support to get through the pandemic and graduate.

The movement started last year to help high school seniors who were struggling through the pandemic.

Organizers say schools were greatly impacted by the virus so organizers began the Adopt a Senior program was to hopefully put a smile on a senior’s face during these trying times in high school and in the community.

More than 1000 seniors joined the Facebook group in 2020, allowing the community a chance to bless them with gifts and whatever they may need.

When you commit to adopting a senior, you get an idea of what they like and do in their everyday lives, and it gives those donating a sense of what the student needs.

Jalil Davis is the Adopt a Senior Administrator. She said, “We would love the community to come be a part of this movement, to bless the class of 2021, cause we don’t even know how the rest of the year is going to be. Why not jump in and help, ya know? Kinda spark it up a little bit better for them.”
