Washington, D.C. (WITN) - Congressman Greg Murphy is among several GOP representatives who have stated they plan to object Wednesday to the certification of several battleground states’ election results.

Murphy and others claim that the battleground states of Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin violated the Constitution in their selection of presidential electors.

“However, as explained in our amicus brief, in the months preceding the 2020 election, those well-established rules and procedures were deliberately changed by a variety of other officials, including governors, secretaries of state, election officials, judges, and private parties,” Murphy said in a joint statement Wednesday ahead of election certification by congress.

We asked why Murphy isn’t challenging the results of the election in North Carolina that also saw changes, for example, the extension of accepting absentee ballots postmarked by election day, enacted by elections officials and backed by judges. Changes by anyone other than legislators are the very reason why results are being challenged in other states.

“North Carolina was on the list of states where laws were changed by other bodies than the State Legislature in direct violation to the US Constitution. Fortunately, however, most of the attempts by Governor Cooper and AG Josh Stein were turned back. In these other states such attempts failed because of activist state courts. Subsequently we are concentrating our efforts on states like Pennsylvania, Georgia and Wisconsin where the transgressions were far more egregious,” Murphy said in a statement to WITN.

President Donald Trump won North Carolina in November.
