RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Newby was officially sworn in early Friday morning.

Shortly after the new year began, the former senior associate justice took the oath of office at his home in Raleigh.

Newby won the election by just 401 votes after a recount by hand was requested from Democrat incumbent Cheri Beasley.

Newby says, “It is truly a sacred honor and privilege to serve as the 30th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina.”

Newby says he took the oath before God and the people of our great state to uphold the Constitution and administer justice for all without prejudice.
