New Bern bank robbery suspect arrested and charged
The New Bern Police Department arrested 21-year-old Nasir J. Ahmad of Randolph Massachusetts.
NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) - The New Bern Police Department arrested 21-year-old Nasir J. Ahmad of Randolph Massachusetts. Ahmad has been charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and placed into the Craven County Jail with a $3.5 million secured bond.
Ahmad is accused of robbing First Flight Credit Union on MLK, Jr. Boulevard in New Bern.
According to police, a bank employee reported that a man entered the bank and demanded money, then ran away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
New Bern Police say they set up a search area, and a photograph of the suspect from surveillance video went out to officers and on social media.
While searching, police say a citizen reported that the suspect may have entered the Spring Hill Suites on Hotel Dr. The department’s Special Response Team was activated and negotiated with Ahmad to come out of the hotel room.
He was taken into custody without incident. Police searched the room and cash from the robbery was recovered, according to New Bern police.
