MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) - If you’re planning to watch a fireworks display from your boat in Morehead City this year, there are some rules.

All boats have to be at least 1,000 feet from Sugarloaf Island, which is a little more than three football fields. Boaters coming from the south side shouldn’t go closer than the Intercoastal Channel.

Officials say boats on the waterfront should hug the waterfront docks to make sure they are properly separated.

The fire marshal in Morehead City says they have problems each year with boaters trying to crowd in on the show.
