A Little Bit of Sunshine: In sickness, health and a global pandemic
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The coronavirus pandemic can feel scary and overwhelming, which is why the WITN News at Sunrise team wants to share some good stories happening in our world every Friday morning.
Liz, Jim and Austin will each pick a story highlighting the helpers, the givers or just anything to simply make you smile during this trying time.
The stories will highlight people in our own community, country or around the world.
Here are the stories highlighted on July 3:
Imagine Hoda Kotb officiating your wedding! That was reality for one pair of frontline heroes.
Vanessa Baral and Herwyn Silva are both nurses in New York. Their original wedding was planned for May, but like many, had to be postponed because of the pandemic.
On top of that, Baral had COVID-19 and the priest that was supposed to marry them actually passed away from the virus. They were ready for some good news, so they decided to get married last week live on the Today Show with Hoda as their minister! Congratulations to the happy couple.
Another congratulations is in order! A patient at CarolinaEast Medical Center, Cynthia Williams, got a special surprise from her husband and staff at the hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Williams celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this week and although they weren’t able to be together the way they’d hoped, they found a unique way to celebrate.
Mr. Williams visited his wife with flowers through the window at the hospital. She says she appreciated seeing his love, even in an unconventional way. Happy 25th anniversary!
