4 Kids, 2 Adults Inside Trailer As Roof Ripped Off

Four young children, their mother and their grandmother were sleeping when high winds ripped the roof off of their mobile home in Bertie County.

The children, who are between 4 and 11 years old, and their mom were staying at their grandmother's home on Pine Street in Lewiston.

All six were asleep when the storm took the home's roof off and laid it in the front yard. No one was injured in the ordeal.

Fortunately, another relative lives next door and they spent the rest of the night with them.

The severe storms that raced through eastern Carolina during the overnight are now pushing well offshore. Most counties reported wind gusts in excess of 50 mph resulting in scattered wind damage across most counties,

There has been several confirmed reports of roofs being blown off homes and businesses. Several trees and power lines were reported to have fallen, and power outages were widespread early Thursday morning. By 10 a.m, however, the power outages were down to several hundred customers.

In Bertie County, the high school, middle school and STEM school were closed because of no power, while a mobile home roof was torn off in Lewiston.

New Bern fire officials report a tree fell on a car on Pelican Dr. as the storm moved through. Craven County Emergency Management reported two trees falling on two homes in the Fairfield Harbour area.

In Pamlico County, two pine trees fell at a home in Alliance, destroying their above-ground pool.

A viewer sent a picture of the roof of a mobile home that was blown off from near Robersonville in Martin County.

Other areas reporting some trees down include: Trenton, La Grange, Walnut Creek, Ponzer and Jacksonville. Many of you will finds limbs your yard as you head out this morning.
