Coming up tonight, after midnight, the Leonid meteor shower will be peaking above us. This year the outlook isn't horrible, but it isn't quiet the 1999 event either. The bright moon will rise in the same location as Leo the Lion, thus making faint streaks very difficult to see. Additionally, the true "peak" comes when Leo is still below the horizon. That's why we're forecasting our "peak" to come after midnight, once Leo has had time to settle into his easterly position.

All that aside, the Leonids have had a history of being one of the better meteor showers to watch. Despite some bad timing, everything will even out with clear skies and cold air. The high pressure that is moving in will make for a very cold and crisp evening. All of which is perfect for catching a glimpse of that falling star (meteor).
