Matt's World Of Weather: Meteor Shower TONIGHT!

Where To Look:
Towards the North Star (Polaris), but frankly, anywhere in the dark sky will do. Best approach is to find a place away from the trees and bright lights.

When To Look:
The "peak" will be between 2am and 4am. Some outlooks project nearly 100 meteors per hour during this window. Don't want to set the alarm? Not to worry, you may spot a random meteor this weekend, but it won't be nearly as active as Saturday morning.

Who You Should Tweet:
Me! My alarm is set and I'll be looking up at 2am. Shoot me a message on Twitter (@EngelWx) or Facebook and let me know how the view is in your location...just remember to adjust the brightness of your screen.

What You Need:
Time
Try to give your eyes 15 minutes to adjust to the darkness and take the brightness down on your cell phone (or put into red mode) BEFORE settling into your spot. The bright screen will quickly reset the 15 minute "eye adjust" clock.

Insect Repellent
A must to stay comfortable for a few hours

Blanket(s)
One to lay on and another to keep you warm. Truth be told though, you may not even need it tonight, temperatures will be upper 60s. If you don't need it for warmth, an extra blanket can always be used as a pillow.

Telescope? Binoculars?
I wouldn't bother with either. Meteors are so small and so quick that capturing them with a telescope is very, very difficult. Meteor showers are the easiest and most relaxing way to enjoy a small piece of our cosmic world. Avoid the technical equipment and just open your eyes.
