What’s The Deal With Tropical Storm Debby?

Tropical Storm Debby is a big rainmaker for northern and central Florida, as the system moving slowly to the east-northeast at 6 mph Tuesday evening. The storm made landfall in northwestern Florida late Tuesday as a weak tropical storm with 40 mph sustained winds. It will move well east of the Southeast coast by the weekend.

The Florida Panhandle and northern Florida have received heavy rainfall of 10 to 15 inches with isolated maximum amounts of 30 inches. Isolated tornadoes are possible there Wednesday, as well as flooding.

As far as Debby’s potential impact on Eastern Carolina, the current forecast keeps Debby tracking eastward over the next several days. This track would keep the storm several hundred miles off our beaches late this weekend as the storm tracks out into the Atlantic.
Bottom line: Debby will miss us as a heat wave builds across our area into the weekend.
