Tyrrell County Hit By Tornadoes & Irene Flooding

Tyrrell County got hit not once but twice from a confirmed tornado before Irene and then flooding from the storm.

The Columbia town manager says over 80% of homes have had water inside of them.

Along main street business owners worked hard to clean up from the flooding. Layers of mud were left inside once the water receded. Water stayed inside of the businesses and homes for about a hour-and-half before the tide went out.

Also hit were two schools. Columbia High School and Columbia Middle School. They both had over 14 inches of water inside of them and school is canceled until September 6th.
