Tropical Storm Helene Forms In Gulf Of Mexico

The eight named tropical system of the season formed late Friday near the Mexican coast in the Bay of Campeche. At 8:00 a.m. Saturday, Tropical Storm Helene was located at 21.9 N, 97.5 W or about 100 miles southeast of Tampico, Mexico. Helene has sustained winds of 40 mph and is moving northwest at 8 mph. The system is expected to hit the Mexican coast by this afternoon as a tropical storm. It will have little or no impact on the United States Gulf Coast.
