TRACKING IRENE: Topsail Beach Asks People To Leave

A voluntary evacuation has been issued for residents of the Pender County town of Topsail Beach.

That evacuation, which began at 10:00 a.m., is for both residents and tourists.

The town says it could see up to a foot of rain from Hurricane Irene, causing widespread flooding.

At this point Surf City and North Topsail Beach have not asked people in those towns to leave.
