TOP WIND GUST: Cedar Island At 115 MPH

Eastern North Carolina was battered with strong winds yesterday with a 115 mph gust recorded at Cedar Island. Gusts topped 70 mph throughout much of our viewing area. A 92 mph gust was recorded at Fort Macon while the peak recorded gust at Hatteras was 88 and Buxton registered 79 mph. The official landfall was at Cape Lookout and the highest recorded gust there was 78 mph. Oregon Inlet had a gust hitting 78 mph and Avon registered 77 mph. New Bern is on record with a 74 mph gust while Cherry Point checked in with 69 mph.
