Pungo District Hospital Reopens

The Pungo District Hospitals Emergency room has reopened as of 3:00 p.m. Sunday.

Previous Story

A hospital here in Eastern Carolina is closing because of Hurricane Irene.

Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven says the storm is forcing it to cease operations at 5:00 p.m. Friday. Hospital administrators say some patients will be transferred to another hospital, while others will be discharged.

The hospital says this is not the first time a storm has forced it to close. Beaufort and Hyde County emergency management officials will be notified when the hospital can re-open.
