State leaders overseeing the recovery effort after Hurricane Irene met with local leaders Thursday to make sure both sides have the information they need.

Former Democrat U.S. Congressman Robert Etheridge and NC Emergency Management Director Doug Hoell were in Beaufort County Thursday getting updates homeowners' FEMA claims and cities, towns, and counties seeking recovery funds.

Etheridge and Hoell say it's important all groups involved work closely together to make sure every eligible need is met.

Regardless of your damage situation, they say the first step is to apply with FEMA and the SBA by October 31st.
