CARTERET: Some Damage At Cape Lookout, Lighthouse To Be Checked

The National Park Service says there was some damage along the Cape Lookout National Seashore where Hurricane Irene made landfall, but the iconic lighthouse is still standing.

The NPS says the Cape Lookout Lighthouse will be checked for structural soundness. There was damage to the lighthouse keepers quarters and the summer kitchen. Over the next few days staff will account for each of the wild horses.

Hurricane Irene slammed into Cape Lookout Saturday morning at 7:29 with winds of 85 MPH and gusts up to 115.
