At least one Eastern Carolina beach town has put up red flags for swimmers to stay out of the water because of Tropical Storm Andrea.
Tropical Storm Andrea is tracking over the east Friday, bringing with it several inches of rain, along with possible rip currents and tornadoes.
Several beach communities along the Crystal Coast are warning swimmers about the changing conditions. Thursday, Pine Knoll Shores posted red warning flags up and down their beach.
Last weekend an ECU student drowned at Pine Knoll Shores while swimming with friends and getting caught in the dangerous rip currents. Town leaders say they put out the flags well ahead of Andrea to make sure they don't have a repeat of that tragedy.
The town planned to switch to black flags Thursday night.
Atlantic Beach had yellow flags on their beaches Thursday. Lifeguards haven't said yet if they plan to switch to reg flags later or not.
