Marina Rebuilding After Fire Braces For Irene

Workers at McCotter's Marina in Beaufort County are not only tying down or removing boats from the water in preparation for Hurricane Irene, they are still trying to rebuild from a destructive fire earlier this year.

In the early morning hours of January 7, the marina went up in flames. The day of destruction burned 26 boats and destroyed several boat slips. Everyone staying on a boat got out alive.

Seven months later, McCotter's is in the middle of rebuilding. All work is expected to be completed in three to four weeks, barring any significant damage from Irene.

However, if Hurricane Irene makes an appearance near Broad Creek and Pamlico Sound, the rebuilding efforts could be delayed.

McCotter Marina officials tell WITN they are not worried about Irene making a mess of their rebuilding progress. They say it's nature, what can you do?
