Humane Society Evacuating Shelter

The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina says it is evacuating its dog kennels in Pitt County because of Irene.

The kennels are not completely enclosed and they also hope to evacuate most of their cats, especially those on the bottom cages.

Some 100 volunteers are expected today at the Tupper Drive facility to pickup the animals for the evacuation. They will sign liability and temporary foster agreements, and the Humane Society will get a picture of the volunteer with the animal for their records. Dogs will have a collar and leash, while cats will leave in a carrier.
