Pamlico County residents are still trying to get their lives in order almost a month after Irene, especially those on Goose Creek Island where many are being told their homes are a total loss.
Homeowners are still tearing out water logged floors and walls, and scrubbing to prevent mold in homes they hope to restore.
Lucille Sadler says she'll have to demolish her home because it's damaged beyond repair. Sadler says Thursday she was told in order to meet FEMA and county standards, she'll have to raise her home 9-feet.
"We have to get out. The molds too bad in here. The FEMA guy told me this morning you do not need to be in this house. He said when I walked in your door I could smell the mold spores and I knew he could because it's bad," said Sadler.
Sadler says she and her husband of 53 years plan to rebuild their home in Hobucken.
