Prepare Now for Emergencies Visit Site
More than $38 million in state and federal aid has been approved to help the residents of 35 North Carolina counties recover from Hurricane Irene.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Friday that more than 30,000 people have contacted it for help or information about disaster assistance, many because their home has been destroyed or damaged.
FEMA says more than 7,700 households have received FEMA grants for temporary housing or to help replace personal property. Almost $19 million has been approved for housing grants.
Oct. 31 is the deadline to apply for disaster assistance from Irene, which struck North Carolina on Aug. 27.
